of the University of Heidelberg

Our research focuses on finding innovative ways to transport drugs to where they are urgently needed. We face the exciting challenge of overcoming barriers such as the blood-brain barrier and effectively transporting drugs into the brain. Our goal is to make the impassable passable for drugs so that they can develop their full therapeutic effect.

Our range of services

Research areas

  • Drug absorption and improvement of resorption
  • Colloidal drug carriers (liposomes, nanoparticles)
  • Drug transport across the blood-brain barrier
  • Depot dosage forms based on biodegradable polymers
  • Characterization of new biodegradable polymers
  • NIR spectroscopy in pharmaceutics

Laboratory equipment

  • Epithelial and endothelial cell culture systems
  • In-vitro models for drug transport (diffusion chambers etc.)
  • Spray drying and lyophilization of pharmaceutical products
  • Development and testing of conventional dosage forms
